Job Description
You will be taking overall responsibility for managing the Finance team of 2 FTE including a Finance Manager and ensuring compliance within best practice guidelines issued by governing bodies. For doing this, you will receive a range of benefits including 25 days holiday per year (exclusive on bank holidays) with an annual increase of 1 day a year for each year of service up to 5 years – pro rata, plus free car parking.
As Head of Finance, your responsibilities will include:
Being fully conversant with SORP, SOFA and other statutory requirements as applicable to charities, ensuring the organisation is compliant.
Taking responsibility for the supervision of the Finance Manager, defining and managing performance and monitoring the appraisal system.
Managing the financial position of externally funded partnerships and arrangements.
Working with and developing financial systems and procedures associated with procurement, budgeting, monitoring, accounting and regulatory reviews, updating the detailed procedures as necessary.
Providing Finance Corporate Priorities to support the organisations overarching Corporate Plan, updating regularly to accommodate the many developments and changes within the activities.
Overseeing and ensuring banking/investment opportunities are maximised for best return to the organisation, and all financial decisions are made in the best interests of the charity.
Working within the Values and Mission Statements and the Diversity and Equality Policy of the organisation at all times.
This is a part-time position and you will be working 2-days per week for the first 3-months and then one full or two half days per week to suit.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A professional accountancy qualification, ACA/ACCA/CIMA. Substantial practical experience of maintaining financial records and preparing financial information reports at a senior level. Experience of financial modeling relating to social care services and specific service provision. To be fully conversant with SORP and SOFA in respect of Charity Law. A detailed knowledge and considerable experience of Charity accounting procedures and regulations. A working knowledge of VAT. A knowledge of charity-based trading activities and requirements. To have a high level of IT competence and expertise in respect of financial accounting with detailed knowledge of appropriate systems including SAGE and Windows-based software applications including Microsoft and Excel. Detailed experience of implementing and managing complex budgets, Trust Funds and financial procedures which will acknowledge differing requirements.
