Job Description

The Assistant Buyer is responsible for determining and selecting the product range in conjunction with the Buyer and / or Category Manager, based on customer buying trends as well as future needs and requirements. To ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained at all times, and in accordance with targets set.

More about the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to progress within the world of buying as you will potentially take ownership of a product range. Working alongside the Buyer you will provide administrative support and support with the selection and buying of products. This will involve;

  • Ensuring the appropriate products are selected based on customer buying, and demand including new products and trends.
  • Review, monitor and maximize best seller products.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of stock, including aged stock levels, and adequate levels for sales and profitability.
  • Achieve against targets as set by the category manager.
  • Review category reports including net sales report, competitor prices report, forecasting sales levels, suggesting and implementing changes to products and pricing accordingly.
  • Support with regular competitor analysis and reviews, including product promotions and pricing strategy development.
  • To ensure products are advertised to achieve maximum profitability, for example, ensuring all relevant accessories and additions are attached.
  • To development excellent working relationships with suppliers and manufacturers, negotiating on product lines and deals.
  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Report on success or concerns related to product sales and performance.
  • To support the implementation of future strategies to develop the business unit.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Previous experience working as an Assistant Buyer or Buying Assistant. Able to build great working relationships both internally and externally, as well as the ability to understand trends and analyze data to support the Buyers in their decision making. Commercial awareness is absolutely key as well as enthusiasm, the willingness to learn, and the drive to succeed. A positive attitude to change and a degree of flexibility, as the role may involve weekend work during peak periods. Excellent excel skills able to assess and manipulate data.
