We now have a fantastic opportunity to join us in the role of Warehouse Operations Assistant Manager. This role will be required to support the management of the 3rd party warehouse operations at specified sites, ensuring that service, cost and safety targets are delivered within budget whilst also ensuring that continuous improvement opportunities are identified and delivered to improve service, cost and safety.

Although this role will be based in the North, there may be a requirement to travel across various sites within the M&S network.

Key responsibilities, amongst others, will include to: -

  • Own week to week operational performance of specified warehouses ensuring operational KPI’s are delivered
  • Support the delivery of in year operating plan and budgets
  • Ensure operations are compliant with all legislative / M&S requirements ensuring standards are maintained and a Connected / One Team culture exists on sites
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities in the warehouses to optimize cost, service and safety working with the on-site team to deliver this and ensure a culture of continuous improvement is embedded
  • Provide feedback on performance to the Warehouse Operations Managers to drive value from the 3PL contract
  • Own site capacities / capabilities on a week to week basis ensuring any constraints are fully understood and managed accordingly
  • Ensure logistics providers effectively plan and execute operational peaks including key promotional events and Christmas
  • Provide support to other logistics operations as necessary including Business Continuity support over weekends
  • Support Logistics Development projects as required, providing operational insight and expertise to the project team and leading the delivery in the warehouses
  • Ensure clear and concise reporting is available to support identification of areas for potential improvement and sharing best practice across the network
  • Act as lead for on-site CI initiatives

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To succeed in this role, you will have robust experience gained within a Warehousing operations environment, if you have Transport Operations experience as well then that would be great! A sound understanding of 3PL / In house Logistics Operations plus basic contract management in open and closed book environments would be ideal as would experience of effectively managing budgets. Lean / 6 sigma and project management skills would also be preferable but not essential. You will have great communication skills with the ability to organize and priorities across multiple disciplines and will be comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels.
