Job Description

Finance Assistant


Reporting to the Head of Finance, this post is key to the day-to-day financial and operational activities of the company.


Your contractual job title will be “Finance & Operations Assistant” and you will be instrumental in ensuring that the underlying financial data is complete and accurate and that the internal control framework is adhered to. You will also contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of IT and Operations.


Finance Assistant Responsibilities:


  • Purchase invoice input, finance review and journal preparation.
  • Sales invoice generation and journal preparation.
  • Credit card data input, finance review and journal preparation.
  • Prepare ad hoc and other regular journals including HQ transfers, inter-ledger and cost recovery journals.
  • Bank reconciliation preparation.
  • Ensure financial controls and procedures are adhered to.
  • Prepare templates for management reports as well as budget and forecast submissions.
  • Support the Finance Team in closing down the month period and preparing the statutory annual accounts and audit.
  • Be the main point of contact for and liaise with the IT provider on any IT issues that arise as well as on any ongoing IT works / projects.
  • Be the main point of contact and the super user for the telephone system.


Finance Assistant Requirements:


  • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and / or resolve the problem. Good diplomatic and negotiating skills.
  • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities.
  • Work cooperatively, dynamically and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance Amref Health Africa UK’s effectiveness.
  • Highly numerate and good analytical ability.
  • Demonstrable ability to work systematically and accurately, with an attention to detail.
  • Able to balance competing priorities and manage workload appropriately.
  • Good IT skills in Microsoft Office particularly Excel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Solid knowledge of financial controls.

Job type: Full Time, 6 months Fixed Term Contract, 35 hours per week, would consider 4 days per week


Salary: £25,000 to £29,000 per annum
