Job Description

You will be required to provide technical input on multiple facets of constructability throughout the development of the design of a project, including:

 

  • Temporary works requirements
  • Lifting and plant solutions
  • Earthworks and mass haulage
  • Traffic management
  • Construction logistics
  • CDM and Principal Designer, Principal Contractor obligations


Responsibilities will entail leading the constructability input for specific projects including drafting option assessments matrices, assessing construction risks with proposed mitigations and provision of best practise advice. The post holder will therefore be able to work unsupervised, take initiative on their own and have an eye for detail when reviewing proposed schemes.

You will need a good level of health, safety and environmental experience as a key responsibility of the role is to identify risks in these areas, proactively lead projects in navigating these considerations, and advise on appropriate mitigation options.

The Construction Manager is required to co-ordinate, co-operate and liaise with other Jacobs departments, contractors, clients and potentially external bodies for the purposes of design development. As such, you will require confidence, good communication and management skills to ensure that the constructability input is conveyed appropriately and given due consideration.

You will have substantial experience in working within the delivery of capital projects and will come from a civil engineering construction background. The role would suit an experienced civil engineer looking to transition into professional services.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
An Engineering Degree or Diploma is normally required. Possible exceptions may be considered where the supporting track record demonstrates the equivalent level of construction knowledge and experience. Membership and professional accreditation with a relevant professional institution is highly desirable You will have a demonstrable track record of on-site experience directly delivering a broad range of multi-sector construction and engineering projects. The ability to independently review design proposals and assess the likely impact and risks associated with constructing the works, under the supervision of a project/team leader. Relevant health, safety and environment experience relating to the construction industry. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Experience of a broader range of specialist construction sectors e.g. mechanical, nuclear, marine. Experience using digital tools including 4D modelling and drafting programmes would be advantageous. Eligibility for security clearances relating to specific projects.
