Job Description
As an Assistant Project Manager in a multi-functional project management consultancy team within projects of different disciplines and complexities, you will have hands-on experience of working with client teams in a collaborative and integrated manner. You will be required to support in the leadership of our projects following the requirements of the WSP Business Management System, as well as to meet client requirements. Experience of working within the Network Rail environment (or other similar major UK client organisations), specifically in the use of the client systems and processes will be advantageous. This role would suit emerging professionals with engineering design experience, now seeking to develop their career within Project and Engineering Management. Recent chartership (or a plan to achieve chartership) of an engineering or relevant professional body is essential.
A typical week would include:
- Assisting in establishing robust processes and procedures to manage the project, in consultation and engagement with our commercial and administration departments.
- Assisting the Project Manager in the maintaining programme control over projects to deliver to time, cost and quality in a safe manner and report on programme progress.
- Collating, formatting and distributing information to support programme requirements. Cascade to internal and external parties where appropriate.
- Assisting in the maintenance and creation of programme governance documentation in accordance with the company BMS.
- Supporting the Risk and Issue management procedure of the project and check that the risk register is updated accordingly.
- Supporting the delivery of consistent quality management procedures and standards for the programme.
- Supporting the Project Manager to facilitate effective resource management across the programme.
- Supporting the Change Management Procedure for the project and ensure the change control log is updated accordingly.
- Facilitating effective planning of the works within the project team.
- Delivering necessary periodic project reports, to allow senior managers to direct the project appropriately.
- Delivering information regarding changes and delays that have impacted the project on a period by period basis and propose how these should be resolved / managed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A Degree, in relevant engineering or management discipline. Approaching (or have a plan for achieving) Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body. APM/MSP/PMI/PRINCE2/Six Sigma post-graduate qualifications would be an advantage. Experience in major construction or rail projects. Client or project delivery (design or construction) Rail, Metro or Transport experience an advantage. Experience of working successfully in a multi-disciplinary team. Experience in a consultancy environment with good customer relationship and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrable knowledge of Project Management and Project Controls tools and techniques Network Rail, HS2, London Underground or other major UK transport client experience is vital.
