Job Description

Our Building Surveyor role is a case in point

You will be able to operate as part of a project team and also able to undertake professional building surveying work.

The primary role is carrying out various types of building survey and also undertaking project work for our wide range of clients, including preparation of planning and building regulations applications, preparation of tender documents and contract administration, using the NEC3 and other suites of contracts.

The individual will be capable of undertaking professional work including surveying properties and their assets, collecting data efficiently and effectively with accurate levels of information for reporting. Knowledge of party wall work, due diligence and fire risk assessment is also preferred.

The successful candidate will also be highly IT and CAD literate, able to design, develop and produce drawings and other documents efficiently and competently. They will have the ability to operate as part of business unit and within a multi-task environment within appropriate authority levels, and to represent the company with confidence to a variety of clients, reporting to the management services team leader.

A typical week would include:

  • To support a portfolio of survey projects, to ensure that these are undertaken utilising the most efficient use of resources, in a timely fashion and in line with WSP policy and procedure and relevant legislation.
  • To provide a professional surveying and project management service to all phases of construction works and projects, from advising managers at the inception stage through to overseeing delivery by contractors, snagging and final sign off of projects to ensure the best use of resources.
  • To implement the delivery of flexible, customer focused project management processes in accord with WSP’s standard methodology.
  • To make sure that Clients and Contractors are aware of the Health and Safety issues and implications of construction work and that they are advised of any work being carried out in order to ensure the safety of all persons within the building or site, the safety of the structure and compliance with statutory obligations.
  • To control and monitor budgets allocated to major projects, managing and reporting on spend to ensure that Client managers are fully informed on progress against budgets in a timely fashion.
