Job Description

Purpose of the job

Ideal candidate coming from a geography, engineering, planning, environmental science or computer science background. Candidate needs an enquiring mind, good eye for detail and interested in new technologies and new ways of working. The role will be a good opportunity to acquire a strong foundation in core technical skills, working on one of the biggest infrastructure job in Europe.

Responsibilities

The ALIGN Graudate GIS Specialist’s tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Working within the ALIGN GIS team to create maps, and web apps and assist in maintaining the GIS database to a high standard.
  • Liaising with the ALIGN land access team and the construction site managers to provide on-going mapping and data management support.
  • Managing, assuring and publishing data to create both maps and apps within the Esri Portal for ArcGIS.
  • Supporting and empowering non-GIS specialists in understanding and using geospatial technologies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven knowledge in Esri ArcGIS Pro, Esri ArcGIS Online/Portal for ArcGIS and Esri Mobile applications. Experience of working with multiple spatial data files formats and the translation of these into GIS-readable data; we are especially interested in hearing from candidates with knowledge of data exchange between CAD and GIS in a BIM environment. Experience of using FME is a bonus, as is knowledge of scripting using Python. Possess knowledge of core GIS concepts including coordinate reference systems and map projections, cartographic design principles and GIS data and metadata management. Good communication skills as the role requires regular liaison with a number of different teams across the project, as well as with the client. The ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently and efficiently in responding quickly to meet deadlines. Openness towards new technologies and ways of working and the confidence to challenge current processes and propose solutions to improve them. Ideally, but not essential, some previous GIS-related work experience. HNC or first degree in GIS, geography, engineering, planning, environmental science or similar.
