Job Description

This is a key role supporting our clients in the early development, planning and procurement of major tunnelling projects. Typical responsibilities will include early stage delivery planning, leading on strategy and production of construction contracts and developing scope and specifications for both procurement and consent.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for:

  • Preparation of technical and non-technical materials related to tunnel construction suitable for the planning process and contract procurement
  • Represent projects at public meetings, consultation events and formal hearings to explain the proposed solutions and rationale for decisions
  • Working with members of project teams to ensure that best international practices in safe, efficient, sustainable construction technologies are considered in the development of the technical design of projects.
  • To support approaches for monitoring constructability in the development of assurance processes for the detailed design and construction method statements.
  • To apply lessons learned from industry best practice in the UK and worldwide in relation to ensuring quality in tunnel design and construction.
  • To support projects to be transformational in the area of Health, Safety, Security & Well-being
  • To implement and help refine and develop action plans, tools and metrics for the development and delivery phases of tunnel projects
  • To ensure the tunnel construction planning teams comply with the programme policies, strategies, plans, processes / systems and procedures
  • Manage, monitor and report on the performance of the tunnel construction planning team
  • To efficiently and effectively collaborate with other project teams and work streams and contribute to an integrated programme delivery approach

To succeed in this position, we believe that you'll be a team player with excellent communication, decision-making and managerial skills. You'll be able to demonstrate experience in design for construction and construction logistics, as well as understanding the consenting processes. You'll also have an e xtensive understanding of the environmental constraints and mitigations necessary for large infrastructure projects and be able to influence and develop working relationships with all stakeholders on the programme.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Bachelor’s degree or similar demonstrated levels of work experience in the field • Extensive construction and design engagement experience on similar heavy civil engineering projects in the overseas or the UK working as designer or designer's site representative. • Membership of relevant professional bodies (Chartered status) • Working knowledge of current UK health and safety construction legislation • Knowledge of the DCO process
