Job Description

Our team will primarily be working within data centre / mission critical environments. This role will require both technical input and managerial duties including line management. The role will also require the development of the existing team and taking charge of projects.

We are looking for an individual to be fully competent in the production of technical reports, site appraisals, master plans and planning related matters, with a good working knowledge of civils software. This role will require coaching and monitoring of staff performance within their group, as well as, implement training, QA, Health and Safety for the team.

Job Summary

To manage project delivery, establish client brief, technical requirements, scope of works, cost plan and agree deliverables, i.e. report, specifications and drawings scope for all projects within the Site Civils team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Your principal role will be day to day project management, delivery of detailed design, leading to construction drawing issue. You can expect to be active on a number of project/client accounts at any given time. You will be supported by a team of experienced technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support.
  • Client and design team liaison, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals, financial control of projects when acting as a project manager and undertaking business development.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical standards and meet QA, CDM and HSE requirements.
  • Define, control and monitor design and construction costs on behalf of the client.
  • Knowledge of the contributory factors affecting design office profit and loss accounts.
  • Confident and experienced in providing multi-disciplinary design services to clients.
  • Experience in business development activities.
  • Responsibility for assisting in the management of fee proposals.
  • An understanding of the key opportunities and Clients.
  • Strong reputation to attract new clients to the company.
  • Confident, persuasive and conciliatory when dealing with Statutory Authorities and local councils.
  • Effective written and oral communicator with an ability to relate to staff at all levels.
  • Capable of resource management.
  • Able to mentor and develop staff potential.
  • Familiarity with various Engineering Conditions of Contract.
  • Familiarity with consultancy engagement contracts.
  • Experience of undertaking the role of designer fully conversant with the latest health and safety legislation relating to the construction industry.
  • Monitor contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships and contacts to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business. Manage client’s expectations and promote a team approach.
  • Develop new business opportunities where appropriate and participate with company presentations.
  • Motivate yourself and manage staff within group to build coherent high performing teams. Set objectives, monitor performance, coach and develop staff to optimise their potential.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations and project financial budgets.
  • Implement management and administration systems (timesheets/expenses etc).
  • As requested, carry out staff Personal Development Plans in accordance with the Personal Development Plans Procedures. Report any staff performance problems to Divisional Director and agree corrective action. Identify and implement all training/CPD requirements of staff within their group.
  • Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
  • Implement Company Health and Safety. Ensure all designs respond to the CDM regulations.
  • Ensure Quality Management System ISO 9001 and 14001 are adhered to.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng/CEng MICE) preferred or the ability to obtain soon after.
  • Experience of monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments would be desirable.
  • Able to undertake computer modelling, organise and direct the production of Civils 3D and CAD/Revit drawings and correspond effectively with opposite numbers with other disciplines.
  • Skills in project managing on-going jobs with limited supervision are desirable.
  • Leadership and people management skills and experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
7-10 years of relevant experience Knowledge of the application of Sewers for Adoption and Approved Documents. Experience in planning consultation with local authorities and planning applications. Experience in the design of Sustainable Urban Drainage systems. Familiarity with the production of Flood Risk Assessments and their development at detailed design. Knowledge of the application of Local Authority design guides and/or highway standards, which include Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. Knowledge in preparing Transport Studies or Transport Assessments for planning purposes. Knowledge in preparing Transport Studies or Transport Assessments for planning purposes. The ability to work in a collaborative team Excellent presentation and communication skills. Good working knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software. Ability to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and clients.
