Job Description

The Contracts Engineer oversees the management and coordination of the pre and post contract delivery elements of the major components across multiple renewable energy projects, ensuring they meet the specification, performance and service requirements defined in the associated agreements.

The Contracts Engineer leads on all technical and engineering discussions with the equipment suppliers, ensuring their performance complies with the relevant contract, finds support from the Construction Project Manager or other technology specialists within the project team /wider business and escalates issues within the supplier organisations and RES.

The Contracts Engineer is responsible during the construction phase of a project for the following:

  • Whenever possible, ensure compliance with our cross-technology standardisation approach to project delivery;
  • With our technology and procurement specialists, coordinate the preparation of the major component supply agreements;
  • Apply FMEA findings into the relevant scope of supply;
  • Develop and conclude the technical content of the FAT’s, SAT’s;
  • Manage the major equipment suppliers to obtain the contract deliverable specifically including the project documentation packages following the requirements of the contract;
  • Formal review, using technology specialists, of the document packages received from major equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with the specification;
  • Help with the development of the project construction programme;
  • Liaise with the RES Commissioning Engineer to encourage the handover from delivery and installation of the major components to commissioning of the plant;
  • Administer the major component supply agreements, including the discharge of the Employer/Engineer responsibilities and review of supplier submissions;
  • Monitor and report on progress on the major component supply agreements on and off site, including guidance and witnessing of essential inspection and test requirements;
  • Provision of technical and commercial advice in relation to the major components;
  • Manage the project level relationships with the major equipment suppliers and resolving any issues as they arise; and
  • Provide commercial and engineering feedback to the strategic procurement and group engineering teams.

Knowledge:

  • Renewable engineering, covering electrical, mechanical and control systems
  • Commercial encompassing contract and change management
  • Renewable energy technology supply markets

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Think creatively to solve problems in a customer focused environment; Technical Project Management Ability to grasp the complex engineering & commercial interactions of renewable energy systems and portray then clearly Excellent organisational and time management and organisation skills Presentation skills, reporting writing and data analysis skills are all required; and Influence negotiations Experience of renewable energy technology preferred Demonstrable experience of managing major technology component suppliers EPC or BoP contracting Prepare contract documents and technical schedules: Chartered Engineer status would be preferred Engineering Degree with 5 years’ experience in a similar role; or Non-vocational / trade background with 7 years equivalent experience
