Description

Blake Newport provides commercial management and dispute resolution services to major construction companies, specialist sub-contractors and client organisations through out the UK and internationally.

Reporting to the Director responsible for Construction, Engineering and Dispute Resolution for the South the position will be to provide consultancy services assisting with the following:

– review and analysis of tender and contract documentation;
– commercial management of a construction project through to the agreement of the final account;
– support with the preparation and defence of claims;
– support with preparation of dispute referral, response and reply documents;

The role will require well rounded commercial management experience with the ability to interpret and operate both standard form and bespoke contract procedures and mechanisms.

Candidate

Candidates should be MRICS or possess an equivalent qualification from a relevant organisation such as the CIOB (or be in the process of achieving such status) and a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience as a quantity surveyor or commercial manager. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of commercial procedures, the principles of contract law and the ability to prepare, assess and interrogate construction costs.

Assignments will usually be undertaken within the client organisation therefore candidates must have the ability to work independently, possess sufficient confidence and judgement to request help, guidance and advice when required and maintain the highest standards of discretion.

Most assignments will be managed from the Blake Newport London office and undertaken in the South of England however the requirement to travel when necessary is essential.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ideally, candidates will also have a working knowledge of dispute resolution procedures, Adjudication in particular, and have prepared or assisted in the preparation of a referral or response documents, although this is not essential.
