Job Description

The Role

Under the CAM contract you will be responsible for engaging with a range of small to medium sized engineering consultancies to manage the design of minor works to the value of up to 100k. The contract is of a reactive nature and is a highly challenging environment, where the small team will have responsibility for in the region of 50-100 live design projects at any one time with delivery deadlines ranging from one week to a year. We also undertake emergency works for network rail and draw upon a wide range of knowledge within our supply chain to make quick decisions, based upon engineering principles, to maintain the operation of the Greater Anglia route. We need someone who is excited to work in a fast paced environment, with strong organisational skills which can be applied into a design development / engineering environment. Experience on site is essential as well as a good understanding of the basic elements of project controls

  • Work collaboratively with the pre-construction teams during design development to ensure designs are constructable and risks have been mitigated
  • Confirm all construction complies with relevant standards, procedures, and contract requirements
  • Co-operate with other team members during the design and construction phases and participate in IDC (Interdisciplinary Design Check) meetings
  • Review and authorise Works Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, and risk assessments
  • Review and authorise Inspection and Test Plans and be responsible for demonstrating compliance during the construction phase
  • May act as the Temporary Works Coordinator and/or ALO (Any Line Open) Responsible Manager
  • The day to day management of all engineering activities of a particular discipline currently being undertaken including assessment of permanent and temporary works design works requirements and the appointment of suitable resource to satisfactorily complete those works
  • The selection and appointment of Temporary works Supervisors
  • The review of all Designs to ensure coordination with other disciplines
  • Shall effectively communicate with the other CREs to ensure that the construction phase entirety meets the technical requirements of the project and integrates effectively. Shall work closely with the CEM (Contractor’s Engineering Manager) to ensure integration is considered on an ongoing basis
  • Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Chartered Engineer CEng MICE (preferred) or MIStructE Civil Engineering degree qualified Extensive experience in rail civil engineering industry Ability to use own initiative Capable of completing work to deadline Previous experience as CRE on other NR projects - desirable PTS (Personal Track Safety) – desirable TWC (Temporary Works Coordinator) trained Working knowledge of CDM 2015 Working knowledge of Common Safety Method and Railway Interoperability Regulations (desirable)
