Job Description

The Civil Engineering and Groundworks Apprenticeship (CEGA) COURSE DETAILS:

The Apprenticeship lasts approximately 18 months, with the first 20 weeks spent at CETC undertaking specific training to ensure students are fully-qualified and ready to work on-site. As part of this, students will obtain the following certifications and licences, all essential for on-site employment:

  • CSCS card
  • CPCS card
  • Dumper licence
  • Roller licence
  • Abrasive wheels certification
  • Manual handling certification
  • CAT and Genny training
  • Banksman training
  • Driver theory training

The Apprenticeship framework enables students to gain the practical skills and experience needed to work within a variety of commercial and industrial settings, including:

  • Understanding technical drawings and plans
  • Using surveying and levelling equipment
  • Designing and installing temporary works
  • Laying foundations for construction work
  • Making and using concrete types
  • Understanding various stone types and their uses
  • Understanding and laying domestic drainage
  • Installing edgings, kerbs and concrete finishes
  • Laying paving slabs and block paving
  • Safely working around existing services and surrounding environments
  • Basic brickwork and installing ironwork
  • Safe working with construction plant and machinery

A driving licence is preferable (but not essential) due to locations of sites and college. You will receive an extra bonus if you obtain your licence during your Apprenticeship.
