Opportunities for finance professionals in one of London’s leading authorities


Our client is widely recognised as a model for good management practice and an authority that invests in its staff to enable them to achieve their full potential. We are now looking for finance professionals to help us develop our forward looking financial strategy and help shape the Council’s strategy response to legislative change . We are a corporate finance team looking to both re-organise and strengthen our offering over the course of the next year and you will work at the heart of the Council as part of this finance team. As a team, we have a growing ambition and we are delighted to have recently been shortlisted for a 2020 Public Finance Award for Solution Partner of the Year with the Oracle Corporation for our recent implementation of a fully integrated finance, e-procurement and human capital management system. About you


These roles provide advice, accounting, financial challenge to managers, budgets holders and staff throughout the Council. To succeed in any of these roles you will need detailed and relevant experience of local government finance. You will be comfortable working with budget holders and staff across the authority and with schools based staff for those specific positions where it is necessary. You will possess the technical skills and capabilities congruent with the positive direction in which the finance team is moving. You will be an excellent communicator who is able to work collaboratively with senior officers and occasionally councillors to achieve corporate and service objectives.

The Role


  • Provision of finance advice and support to budget holders
  • Management accounting – review and challenge of financial forecasts
  • Assist in preparation of the Corporate Services Directorate budget
  • Using Oracle Cloud to extract and analyse financial information
  • Contribute to the closing of accounts process, including preparation of accruals and key reconciliations in accordance with the corporate timetable
  • Liaise with external auditors as required, to help ensure that audit deadlines are achieved


What we’re looking for


These opportunities range from those at a technician level to those recently qualified as CCAB accountants with experience in one or more of the following: housing revenue account finance; service directorate accounting; accounting reconciliation and final accounts; financial systems development and support, principally around Oracle Cloud – ideally gained in a local government environment. You will combine good communication abilities and a proven technical flair, advanced IT skills and an ability to contribute ideas and energy within a team working environment.
