Job Description

The main aim of the contract is to lead the delivery of a major control systems upgrade to meet demanding speed of response and data capture requirements.

SCADA Engineer Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, and working closely with the Operations Director, the SCADA Engineer shall be responsible for managing the development and implementation of SCADA upgrades and solutions on battery storage and gas peaking sites. The key activities required by the role:

  • Project Management of SCADA development:
    • Manage contractors’ due dates and ensuring contractors deliver their required design deliverables correctly and on time
    • Co-ordinate SCADA design and integration between multiple SCADA contractors
    • Manage signal lists between contractors
    • Review design documentation, including signal lists, data flows, network architecture
    • Ensure quality control of SCADA contractors works at all times
    • Lead design co-ordination meetings between all contractors responsible for design
  • SCADA commissioning and testing
    • Co-ordinate commissioning of a new SCADA system and its interface with an existing system
    • Manage the testing on site, including assisting the SCADA contractors with commissioning and troubleshooting
    • Troubleshoot issues, in particular Modbus TCP / IP communication issues
    • Manage the installation and integration of a new power quality meter into the SCADA systems
    • Commission and manage the testing of a high speed data capture system
    • Ensure correct and latest revisions of all drawings and calculations are used by all contractors in the design, development and construction of the project.
    • Managing of testing contractors

SCADA Engineer Requirements:

The SCADA Engineer requires the following skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Modbus TCP/IP implementation and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of power quality meters and their implementation into SCADA systems
  • High speed data capture
  • Optimising speed of response of SCADA systems
  • Troubleshooting of control systems, in particular Modbus TCP communications
  • Remote monitoring and diagnostics of control systems

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
10+ years within a controls environment, ideally with experience in battery energy storage systems and/or ancillary services markets.
