Job Description

Working within our Transmission Development Team, we have an exciting opportunity to lead the successful development of the Eastern HVDC Subsea Link which will connect Scotland and England to support the transfer of renewable electricity to key UK Centre’s of demand. The project forms one of the largest projects of which Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission are involved with over the next decade, comprising High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Convertor Stations, subsea cable installation and AC connections at either end of the system.

In the longer term, the successful candidate will have opportunities to lead on further HVDC subsea cable projects which Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission are involved in, with values in excess of £2bn. Experience in the development of subsea cables and of HVDC Transmission Systems through to the achievement of necessary consents would be deemed beneficial for this role.

Reporting to a Project Director, you will take overall leadership in the development of the Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission elements of this package of project in identifying and forming an appropriate team to execute each specific project.

You will be leading and managing a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver key project deliverables up to the project construction phase. These will include assessing project feasibility, development of cable routes and onshore site selection, selection of appropriate technologies to meet project requirements, coordination of key surveys and studies to inform designs, coordinating initial design works, acquisition of land rights and way leaves, submission of Planning Applications, coordinating key submissions to the Regulator and delivery of key project Gate documentation in line with Project Governance

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
You will also be expected to identify business improvements and where required support colleagues and the business to develop, test, implement and verify these. To be considered for the role of Lead Offshore Development Project Manager, you will ideally have a Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or Project Management, as would the holding of a recognised Professional Qualification such as Chartered Engineer status or APM status. It is important that you understand the electrical network within the Transmission business. You should have experience in the development of electrical subsea cable projects, preferably within an HVDC system, or similar relevant offshore experience would be advantageous. Knowledge of key offshore and marine stakeholders and marine consenting regimes would be beneficial. Demonstrable experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver multiple project outputs to inform key processes such as Planning Applications, Tenders and Design Works is required and you should have a background in developing, managing and reporting on significant project budgets (£10M and above). Ideally you will have worked within a Joint Venture structure but this is not essential. You will ideally have knowledge/experience of: The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other key relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation. The NEC3 Suite of Contracts, with a focus on the Engineering and Construction and Professional Services Contracts.
