Job Description
The role is primarily field-based, but you will also be responsible for reporting on project progress, reviewing project documents and signing off on completed schemes.
Key Accountabilities:
Meeting our customers at pre-site meetings to collate a programme of works, and ensure any off-site works are booked in with local authorities and other relevant parties
Ensuring that mains designs are correct and meet customer and Thames Water requirements, feeding back to design any issues or amendments to be made which could have cost or re-design implications
Ensuring water mains are laid to correct industry standards and are build as per the design i.e. depth, line & levels, correct material according to the soil report/ground conditions, and include the specified valves and fittings etc
Completing regular health and safety inspections on-site to drive high standards, and avoid incidents and injuries as a result of our works
Ensuring water quality compliance as per Thames Water standards
Attending post works meetings to inspect the finished assets and ensure construction is as per the design and to the right standards, checking measurements of main laid, fittings installed, and as built-drawings
Identify any rectifications that are required and ensure they are carried out before the mains are vested
Ensuring schemes are delivered within the regulatory timescales to meet Water UK metrics and improve our D-Mex score
Ensuring Permits to Work (PTWs) are raised for connecting new mains, and key internal stakeholders such as design and operations are kept up to date with progress and issues on site
Inspecting work being completed by Self Lay Providers (SLPs) and ensuring Source of Water and Permanent Supply jobs are completed within the 21-day regulatory period
Ensuring as laid drawings are received for all works and sent to Technical Information for GIS to be updated
Coordinating offsite mains reinforcement schemes, including cross-connections, DMA Installations and main laying
Providing technical advice and information from the site to the design team to ensure designs meet our requirements and are both cost-effective and safe to construct
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Full UK driving licence Understanding and awareness of project delivery processes, contracts and commercial drivers Relevant technical knowledge and experience of water network assets Self-motivation and personal drive Excellent problem-solving skills Good communication and organisational skills Competent using IT systems including SAP, MS Office, GIS View Tool etc A technical degree or equivalent; working towards Chartered Engineer status.
