Job Description
  • Leading the delivery of a portfolio of complex projects, effectively managing interdependencies, allocation of resources, finances, planning, risk and issue management and delivery of agreed business benefits.
  • Owning and managing an aggregated view of projects into a cohesive portfolio, maximizing capability to mobile and deliver Change.
  • In conjunction with the Planning & Insight Team, scoping and shaping new initiatives within the Portfolio Domain. Developing a roadmap of prioritized and early-stage shaped initiatives with supporting business cases, always considering the impact on the wider Change portfolio.
  • Ensuring the governance framework and Portfolio structure is fully embedded and utilized throughout the life of a project from ideation through to closure.
  • Working closely with the Practice Manager, providing coaching and guidance to the PMs and Portfolio team supporting the delivery of projects.
  • Managing project resources, working collaboratively with functional leads across the Portfolio Domain, flexing assignments as appropriate to efficiently deliver the projects & maximize benefits realization.
  • Transitioning and influencing the mix of permanent and flex resource required to enable Change colleague development, as well as Change delivery execution of your portfolio.
  • Managing and maintaining multiple plans, stakeholders and issue escalations whilst simultaneously leading and directing accountable Change delivery teams.
  • Flexing style and support between project, programme and portfolio without impacting stakeholder confidence and relationships.
  • Working collaboratively with other Portfolio Delivery Managers to manage cross-portfolio dependencies and prioritization to deliver the best outcome.
  • Building and maintaining meaningful and collaborative senior relationships with the appropriate balance of working in partnership and disagreeing agreeably.
  • Building and maintaining external and internal networks to identify opportunities to further leverage best practice and to build the profile of the Change Management Community.
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, shared learning and collaboration.
  • Managing key supplier relationships and performance supporting the portfolio.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experienced at simultaneously delivering multiple complex Change programmes/portfolios in a fast-paced, time-pressured and transforming organization, with increasingly limited resources. Excellent planning and delivery skills with hands on experience of having led programme and Change teams at management level. Significant experience in the financial accounting of Change, demonstrating an understanding of how project delivery flows through to the organizations’ commercial and financial planning. In-depth experience of managing stakeholders as the point of accountability, representing all aspects of Change during its lifecycle. Demonstrable experience in negotiation and conflict management. Significantly experienced at managing external third-party relationships with a full understanding of Change contractual and commercial management. Experienced at maintaining and representing Change governance and delivery frameworks to project stakeholders, both internally and with third parties. Professionally qualified in Programme and Project Management or an industry recognized qualification. Customer-focused with evidence of driving improvement for the end customer experience. Be a logical and structured leader with a proven ability to influence and communicate with stakeholders at all levels. Be able to create calm out of chaos, and lead a project and portfolio team accordingly, being a role model for PMs and PMO Analysts. Be a creative problem solver, coaching others to find solutions to problems from a variety of perspectives, anticipating issues before they arise. Be able to organize, lead and motivate a team to achieve objectives and targets. Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal. Ability to distil complex messages into simple, clear and insightful messaging and management information. Be well-connected within the Change delivery community, closely following trends with the ability to assess and incorporate.
