Job Description

The main responsibility of the FTTP Installation Engineer will be to work effectively in a new 2-person team to attend pre-booked appointments and install FibreNest’s ultrafast broadband service into our customers’ new properties. This includes the installation and repair of fibre-optic CPE (customer premises equipment) in both residential and commercial buildings as well as the installation and maintenance of FibreNest’s under and over-ground fibre distribution network. Other duties will include:

  • Installing micro-ducts into existing underground duct access systems.
  • Carrying out blown fibre installations to individual buildings and apartment blocks.
  • Installation of fibre-nodes, cables and optical splitters within a GPON architecture.
  • Splicing, terminating and testing internal and external optical cables in-line with our rigorous quality standards.
  • Upgrading and maintaining our national network of roadside distribution cabinets.
  • Performing routine and ad-hoc quality assessments on both your own and subcontractors’ work.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and swiftly repair fibre faults within the network to ensure minimum disruption to service.
  • Responding to and resolving in-home customer faults and service outages.
  • Assisting other installation teams across the UK where necessary to support customer needs, project timescales or customer demand.
  • Delivering an exceptional, unmatched level of customer service at all times to both our new and existing customers.

The role will involve liaison with site management teams and our new home purchasers – so strong communication skills and a genuine passion for delivering a friendly, 1st class customer experience are paramount.

Although previous experience is preferred we will be happy to consider applicants with experience in similar sectors e.g. satellite/cable television installers and electricians. Where this is the case, a full and comprehensive programme of on-the-job training and support will be provided. Such candidates MUST be able to demonstrate and evidence their positive approach to customer service and must be fully reliable, dependable and willing to learn new skills.

All candidates must be prepared and willing to undertake regular daily travel to sites across East Scotland and further afield to attend pre-planned customer appointments. In addition, regular overnight stays away from home during the week will be required although the cost of this and reasonable expenses will be met by the company.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A good understanding or keen interest in UK telecoms networks and technologies is required as is a basic knowledge of electrical safety. We are ideally looking for candidates with 1st hand exposure of installing telecommunications infrastructure in customer premises as well as at the roadside and underground. Specific experience of fibre-optic installation, splicing and distribution would be particularly advantageous.
