The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in supporting the Financial Controller - UK to manage the month end activities for the firm and to ensure accurate and timely financial reports are delivered to the Group Financial Control team. Their primary role is to manage the financial systems and processes to ensure financial information is timely, accurate, complete and compliant with relevant accounting requirements and expectations for the firm in the UK and the Group.
Key outcomes:
Month end accounting activities: Responsible for the month end accounting process for the firm including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and analysis of variances, according to globally established timelines.
Monthly Reporting: Working with the Financial Controller UK, prepare the full suite of monthly financial statements for the firm, reporting on all material variances. Liaise with the Group Financial Control team on consolidation of the results into the Group results. Preparation of ad-hoc reports and analysis as required.
External Reporting: Working with the Financial Controller UK to ensure statutory reporting obligations are managed, embedding best practice external reporting. This includes liaising with external auditors.
Controls and compliance: Partner with the broader finance team to implement best practice policies, processes and internal controls to ensure the highest standards of financial integrity are attained as well as alignment with global ways of working.
Ad hoc finance projects, including expense reporting, and tax matters.
Key accountabilities:
Timely and Accurate Reporting: Drive the month end activities and reporting cycle for the firm in alignment with agreed timelines. Preparation of month end journals and balance sheet reconciliations, and analytical review of variances and material movements. Ensure integrity of Fixed Asset register by updating additions, transfers and disposals.
Best Practice External Disclosure: Working with the Group Financial Control team, ensure the Group's financial reporting is not only compliant but at a best practice level for a listed entity.
Internal Controls and Compliance: Together with the Financial Controller - UK, ensure the appropriate level of internal controls are in place to safeguard the integrity of financial data. Establish and maintain all financial procedures, practices, controls and policies in accordance with financial and accounting principles, all legal and corporate/regulatory requirements and required governance practices for the firm.
Continuous Improvement: Partnering with the broader Finance and Transformation teams, lead and implement continuous improvement in financial systems, processes and analytics.
The Successful Applicant
Financial accountant in a company with global operations (could be FS, FinTech or Commerce & Industry)
Background in Chartered environment highly valued
CRUCIAL: Experience in managing the month end process, including complex balance sheet reconciliations
Excellent working knowledge of IFRS
Experience in working with and liaising with external auditors for the year end reporting
Comfortable with change and working in a growth and fast pace environment
Hunger to learn, apply skills, and grow within the organization
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deliverables
Excellent systems skills, ideally ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics)
Tertiary qualifications in Finance or Accounting, and membership of one of the accounting associations (ACCA, ACA, CIMA)
