Job Description
We are looking for a Group Accountant to join us , Brentford! This is fantastic opportunity for a qualified individual to work with global commercial teams on high profile projects.
Your responsibilities:
- Prepare the Group’s consolidated cashflow statement and cashflow analysis pack using data submitted by c450 entities
for use in internal monthly reporting as well as external quarterly and annual reporting
- Take ownership of other projects including performing impairment testing on goodwill or intangibles in line with IAS36 requirements. This includes preparing valuation models for businesses and/or products based on financial forecasts from the businesses and as such it provides significant opportunity for exposure to commercial finance
- Ensure alignment between internal and external cash flow reporting including segmental and business free cash flow measures as well as reporting on the Group KPI’s relating to free cash flow. Supporting the Corporate Planning and Forecasting team in the preparation of Corporate cash flow and net debt forecasts.
- Assist with queries from subsidiaries and senior management regarding cashflow movements and transactions.
- Act as a subject matter expert in relation to the consolidation and reporting of group cash flows in relation to the maintenance and improvement of the Group consolidation and reporting system.
Key relationships
- Collect explanations and commentaries from the wider GSK Corporate finance functions (including head office teams such as tax, treasury as well as teams within Finance Services and the market FDs and Controllers).
- Present on a monthly basis the consolidated cashflow to the Group CFO, Group Financial Controller and VP, Planning and Forecasting and discuss significant transactions and their treatment.
- Liaise with the Group’s external auditors and internal compliance teams in relation to the operation of controls associated with the preparation of the Group cash flow statement.
- Present results of one-off or annual or quarterly projects such as Impairment testing to various senior financial management and the Group’s external auditors.
Detailed responsibilities
- Provide additional cashflow and balance sheet related analysis for external and internal reporting, including preparation of Notes to the Accounts in the Financial Statements
- Responsible for aligning and/or reconciling management results with externally reported results
- Ensure the treatment of transactions is correctly reflected in the cashflow (e.g. minority dividends paid/received, various business combinations, group entity restructuring and intra-group transactions) working together with relevant specialised teams in the wider finance function such as the Corporate Finance M&A team, the External Reporting team, Group Tax, Group Treasury, Treasury Accounting, Company Secretary, Corporate Development (M&A), etc.
- Control and analyse movements in the consolidated cashflow and thus the balance sheets and income statements of operating segments / markets, working closely with the finance directors and financial controllers of the markets
- Maintenance of the consolidation system chart of accounts structure. Translation of new reporting requirements into new Chart of Account requirements, and provision of guidance/instructions. Maintenance of the “Balance Sheet Flow” Manual
- Liaising with Deloitte during all audit phases (Quarterly and Annual).
- Preparation and maintenance of relevant consolidation process documentation to meet Sarbanes-Oxley requirements specifically allocated to the role.
- Note: Work only relates to consolidated reporting, not to statutory reporting of any individual companies
Basic qualifications:
- Fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA etc)
- Demonstrable experience within a similar role post qualification
- Educated to degree level
- Member of a professional accounting organisation (eg ICAEW).
- Experience including multi-national group consolidations as well as experience and appreciation of the culture of very large organisations would be advantageous
- Competence in financial accounting and reporting as well as knowledge of current accounting standards (IFRS), in particular IFRS 3 Business Combinations and IAS 7 Statement of Cashflows
- Organisational skills, prioritising and meeting deadlines
- Influencing and building relationships: The role involves interaction with many parties who are not directly linked to reporting lines to and from this role, so therefore good relationship building and influencing skills are important to be successful in this role
- Communication for results: The role prepares information for external and internal ‘customers’ including the most senior people in finance in GSK and as such flexible communication skills are required to present information depending on the customers’ specific needs and focus
- A high degree of ownership and ability to drive processes and projects: Initiate and assist in improvements to reporting processes and challenge existing accounting treatments and reporting processes, in order to improve quality of reported information. The role is responsible to drive projects and annual processes using resources available in company.
- Accuracy / attention to detail / integrity in producing results is essential while at the same time maintaining a big picture and proportion and an awareness of what consequences the results have
- Identifying the need for and responding quickly to change.
Preferred qualifications:
- Big 4 experience
- Prior experience in a Group Consolidation role
