Job Description

Our Development Infrastructure team specialises in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions from planning, through to full implementation. We are currently seeking to recruit an Engineer to join the team.

The team focusses in providing high level advice to both private and public sector clients on planning and design issues relating to Highways, Public Realm, Sewerage, SUDS, Earthworks, Flood Protection and Utilities Coordination/Diversion on Residential, Retail, Industrial and Commercial Developments both in the UK and overseas.

The team also works closely with other WSP disciplines on high profile major multi-disciplinary projects.

A typical week would include:

  • Working within small teams to produce designs and drawings to support planning applications and construction
  • Being active on a number of projects and client accounts at any given time
  • Reporting to a Principal Engineer or Associate
  • Providing day to day project management support in the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawing issue.

Ideally you will be from a Consultancy or Development background with a bias on private sector work. All staff are encouraged and assisted to progress their training towards ICE Incorporated or Chartered status, with internal and external training opportunities provided.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A civil engineering degree (or minimum HNC in Civil Engineering) with experience in highway and highway drainage design Good post graduate experience in a civil engineering working environment A sound understanding of highway and highway drainage principles (layouts, standards etc.) together with experience in applying Highways Agency and Local Authority design guidance in to your design outputs The ability to prepare designs for highways schemes, both in 2D and 3D using software packages such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PDS, MicroDrainage, etc. This will include the preparation of required design packages suitable for S278, S38 and S104 Adoption Agreements An ability to work with both senior and junior staff in producing designs Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team The ability to seek clarity of instructions, check own work before submitting for approval, agree and meet timescales for items of work.
