Job Description

The successful candidate will become a permanent member of our creative, friendlyTeam with a view to becoming a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE – a Network Rail designated role).

The engineer will be an enthusiastic bridge/ civil structure engineer with a very strong technical background and an excellent communicator with the ability to support a team of other engineers and technicians on projects. They will be at least CEng MICE and/or MIStructE or hold a similar professional qualification demonstrating and can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience and ability. Whilst existing rail competency would be ideal, it is not essential if their work to date has been predominantly highway bridge based particularly if this has included work on existing and historical bridges of a range of different structural forms and materials. If the new employee is not already a CRE on Network Rail projects, for the right candidate we would be willing to rapidly develop this designation within 1-2 years.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate a very strong technical base with industrial experience in bridgeworks and civil engineering for transportation infrastructure. Has independently produced and managed production of engineering deliverables such as calculations, drawings, specifications and reports for technically complex bridge/civil-structure works for transportation infrastructure. Very familiar with best-practice bridge/civil-structure design, assessment and analysis methods, associated codes of practice and approval processes. Highly motivated and with a desire to tackle interesting problems with the opportunity of finding innovative solutions. Good team player with the ability to run projects or as part of a bigger team. Currently a bridge/structures CRE on Network Rail projects or otherwise working in the rail environment. Familiar with bridge/civil-structure associated UK national standards, Network Rail standards and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. Knowledge and experience of using 3D design packages such as SolidWorks / Rhino / Microstation or Revit. Use of information management software such as ProjectWise. Ability to code, programme and otherwise use digital skills e.g. Grasshopper, Python, advanced Excel etc CEng MICE and/or MIStructE or hold a similar professional qualification and can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience and ability.
