Job Description

We currently have the opportunity for a talented Engineering Manager to join the Rail team based in York. Reporting to the Stations and Depots Team Leader as an Engineering Manager you will provide design delivery on a variety of schemes including, depots, Stations, enhancement and renewals works for clients such as Network Rail, HS2, Contractors, Nexus and more. As we operate in such a diverse marketplace, you will gain an experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your technical knowledge.

You will be a key technical team member in the York Rail business, responsible for and involved in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of Arcadis services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and to build networks within the industry.

You will fulfil the role of CEM for Network Rail projects or Engineering Manager on projects for other clients.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Take a leadership role with the project team, providing direction and leading by example where appropriate.
  • Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
  • Manage all aspects of the client relationship so that delivery meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Working to ensure maximum client satisfaction, championing client care and proactively working with the client.
  • Lead the delivery of projects ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues.
  • Select, lead and develop the project team, to ensure they have the necessary skills to deliver the project, they understand and are engaged with the project strategy, brief and client requirements, and to manage their delivery of project objectives.
  • Coordinate and manage project teams and large size projects of single (own) discipline engineers or mid - large size multi-disciplinary project teams, ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues.
  • Lead interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Perform independent technical review for projects of moderate complexity.
  • Manage the performance of team members and sub-contractors, identifying and ensuring the resolution of any issues.
  • Engage with the client and all key stakeholders to develop a shared understanding of project objectives and to establish protocols for working together.
  • Manage technical client relationships and plays a major role in pursuits.
  • Lead technical business development work.
  • Provide input into specific technical aspects of individual bids to support the production of high-quality winning bids. Developing skills and knowledge base in both the technical and management streams

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
You will have a gained substantial multi-disciplinary rail design experience with significant experience gained within a consultancy environment. Previously fulfilled the role of CEM for Network Rail or similar engineering management roles for other clients. Proven experience of successfully integrating and assuring multi-disciplinary designs Robust understanding of System Engineering techniques and tools Good working relationships developed with Clients You will be an Innovative thinker, a team player, proactive and delivery focused An aptitude for Building Information Modelling and the workflow associated with projects delivered in a Common Data Environment You will be able to demonstrate strong team building and collaboration skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven planning and organisation skills Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development Have strong consulting skills including project management and client relationship management at senior management level. Good IT skills including Microsoft Office applications
