Job Description

Working at our Cardiff office within the Finance & Treasury function, you will prepare the management accounts and other financial reports, alongside managing the payments and receipting processes on behalf of a Client as part of a small team. You will lead project and process developments to assist in creating more efficient and enhanced reporting.

The management accountant will support the Head of Energy Bureau in managing the Client’s reporting expectations in terms of billing, portfolio management reporting and analytics.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week , 8:00 to 4:30pm or 8:30 to 5:00pm

Typical Duties

  • Maintain all financial books and records
  • Payment processing and administration
  • Preparation of management accounts in line with the relevant accounting policies
  • Month end prepayment and accrual calculations
  • Preparing and posting journals
  • Preparation and assistance with supporting schedules
  • Produce balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variance
  • Undertake financial and operational analysis involving large volumes of data and production of supporting reports
  • Preparation of budgets and cash flow forecasts
  • Portfolio management including managing and maintaining the Fixed Asset Register
  • Liaising with other Group Finance functions to ensure accuracy and completeness in reporting
  • Leading project developments and assisting with streamlining and improving processes
  • Undertaking financial administration
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and provision of assistance with the annual audit process
  • Ensuring HMRC requirements and deadlines are met
  • Support and deputies the Head of Energy Bureau as appropriate
  • To comply with all SMS Plc Health, Safety and Environmental requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Management and financial management accounting. Strong stakeholder and communication and management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work autonomously and manage a busy and varied workload. Driven with an enthusiastic attitude. Organized and reliable. Able to organize and priorities work to meet deadlines and manage the expectations of stakeholders. Good numerical ability with an attention to detail. IT literate (Microsoft Excel / Word etc.). Part or Fully ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified (or equivalent) is essential. GCSE (or equivalent) English / Mathematics at grades C or above is essential. Degree level education (non-specified) (or equivalent) would be desirable however not essential. Management and analysis of large volumes of data is essential. Self-motivator who is pro-active is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders is essential. Finance/Management Accounting. Employment experience within the utility industry. Microsoft Dynamics365 Accounting Software experience.
