Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. To provide the provision of hot and cold beverages and snacks. This can involve taking orders from employees asking for their meal at a certain time to tie in with their work breaks.

2. To provide beverages and snacks for business meetings held in meeting rooms.

3. To review the canteen offering in terms of the hot food options available and suggest alternative meal options.

4. Maintaining safe and hygienic practices as applicable to food products and canteen area, whilst complying with Basic Food & Hygiene regulations.

-5. Maintain stock rotation and stock control of consumables and cleaning products.

6. Daily control of canteen money received and accurate reconciliation of orders and finance. To chase employees for any monies owed and to advise Financial Controller where applicable of significant issues where an employee is not paying monies owed.

7. Ordering of stock items (ready meals, crisps, confectionary, tea, coffee, squash, chips, cheese, soft drinks, tinned food) as applicable from our external canteen food/drinks supplier – currently Bidfood. This will involve passing a list of items required to our Administrator who then orders the items on-line.

8. When stock items are received to receive and check the deliveries (1-2 times /week). Where discrepancies are noted to advise the delivery person so that any necessary credits are raised on the account. To approve invoices/credit notes from the external canteen food/drinks supplier.

9. Ensure canteen area is cleaned daily to include mopping of kitchen area, cleaning of dishwasher (weekly on Thursday), cleaning of chip pan, microwave, toasters, fridge, freezer, coffee machine, and hotplates. At the end of each week the coffee machine will need to be turned off for the weekend.

10. For any services/repairs required for canteen equipment to raise this with the Facilities Manager.

11. Attendance at training courses covering food & hygiene.

12. Going to supermarkets daily to buy items not bought from our external canteen food/drinks supplier. This will typically include milk, eggs, bread, fruit, vegetables, cold meats/fish, pizzas.

13. Putting shopping/stock deliveries away in cupboards, freezer, fridge.

14. Preparation of salads and cold meats ready for that day.

15. At peak season to support the business by working longer hours if required.

16. To supervise canteen agency staff where they are providing additional support at peak season.

17. To go around the lab and the offices towards the end of the working day to check that everyone has eaten or placed an order.

18. To wash tea towels at home.

General Duties:

1 The Canteen Assistant is responsible for other such duties as specified by management to enable the company to fulfil its orders and obligations.

2 Adherence to company rules and regulations, including Health and Safety, as outlined in the company handbook and Health and Safety Manual.

3 Maintaining the confidentiality of all knowledge and information appertaining to the company, its customers and its employees.4 Adherence to company procedures concerning employee objectives and appraisals.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
