HR Manager

Job Description

Regarded as a great business to work for (a history of boomerang hires evidences this), the role of HR is to continue to develop the employee experience and to support the business through its strategic objectives, which will see the HR team delivering a number of change related projects in the future. The majority of your time though is likely to be spent engaging managers on employee relations, training and performance matters, while ensuring the policies and processes are fit for purpose. What about admin though, Sam? Yes, you’ll need to make time for yourself as, with being a small team, you’ll need to manage the admin side of people management, absence, occupational health, appraisals etc. This does mean overseeing payroll too – after all, a happy employee is probably a correctly paid employee – you’ll work closely with the Finance Business Partner on this from a systems and process perspective.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
You’ll need to be a competent HR Assistant or HR Advisor, ideally with experience in a fast-paced environment such as manufacturing, logistics or engineering – at the very least a willingness to walk the shop floor and understand the operation. Communication skills, both written and verbal, are key to succeed in this role, as is a proactive nature. Been in the role 4 weeks and think the job is pretty easy, or just not that busy? You’re probably not getting out and about enough. The HR Manager is likely to be engaging a lot of her time in project delivery so an outgoing, inquisitive approach to work is going to lend itself way to succeed in this role but, in equal measure, a methodical, organised approach to managing workload and prioritisation. CIPD qualifications, naturally, would be advantageous.
