Job Description
  • To admit and care for rescue and boarded dogs in accordance with Hope Rescue Standard Operating Procedures and processes ensuring welfare standards are consistently met
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the kennels at all times.
  • Ensuring all animals housed are fed timely and in line with the dietary requirements of the animal.
  • Ensuring all dogs are exercised appropriately and receive appropriate enrichment.
  • Carrying out training and behavior modification programmes.
  • Ensure medication is stored correctly and administered in line with medical advice and guidance.
  • Bathing of dogs as required.
  • Light maintenance duties as required.
  • To comply with Health & Safety policies and procedures in line with Hope Rescue and statutory standards and rules, ensuring the safety of all persons and pets on and off site at all times.
  • Dealing with customers and delivering an excellent customer experience with a positive, motivated attitude.

The salary rate is Minimum Wage. You will be expected to work on both a Saturday and Sunday from 8am until 4.30pm.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
4 GCSE’S or equivalent. Vocational qualification in an Animal Care/Welfare/Behavior subject. A full driving license is essential. Experience of working or volunteering in a kennel environment. Proven experience of delivering high standards of customer care. Experience of working with volunteers. Experience of working with dogs with medical or behavioral needs. Micro chipping experience or willingness to learn and administer. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues (including volunteers). Awareness of positive, reward based training. Confident and competent in the day to day handling of rescue dogs. A professional empathy with the Hope Rescue Vision, Mission and Values and a passion for animal welfare. Flexible approach to working hours and the ability to work weekends and Bank Holidays as required. A self-starter, highly motivated and organized. Capable of handling stressful situations and a busy environment while maintaining a positive demeanor. Professional, proactive, positive and enthusiastic with a strong ‘can do attitude’. Committed to delivering high standards of customer service and be a genuine team player. Keenness to learn and further develop work based skills. Confident and able to work with little direction, but understand the limits of your delegated authority.
