Job Description

The role of audit is changing, and so too are the skills we are looking for to help drive this change and transformation in our business. As such, we are looking to recruit a forward thinking analyst with risk sensing capabilities who can help us to monitor the companies we audit more closely. This exciting role will help us to interpret the signals and try and spot issues earlier, enabling us to take preventive action.

We are proud to offer flexible working arrangements which allow our people to choose the most suitable working arrangement that works for them. Whether this is working 4 days per week, taking the summer months off work, or more flexibility around your working pattern, we consider both formal and informal working arrangements that allow our people and the entities we audit the best outcome.
For this role we can offer coaching and support designed for returners to refresh your knowledge and skills, and help your transition back into the workplace after a career break of 2 years or more. If this is relevant for you, just let your recruiter know when you make your application.
The purpose of this role is to help with the delivery of the strategic change activities required to take the Audit Emerging Issues Group (EIG) to the next level in the UK and more widely across Deloitte North South Europe.

One of the key activities will be to broaden the skillset of both the central Emerging Issues Group team and our audit partners, directors and manager to include a greater understanding of market signals and greater awareness of fraud risks. There are a variety of external indicators (e.g. short selling, adverse analyst reports, media investigations) that auditors can use to highlight concerns of business health years in advance of potential issues becoming well known. This role will help the audit teams to make better use of the information and resources available to spot these potential issues more quickly.
The Senior Equity Analyst will work directly with the EIG Partner and Director team to help deliver our strategic change activities in this area.

These activities are likely to include:

  • Support the development of core EIG activities through working with the team to:
  • identify new financial data sources for EIG to monitor to help identify ‘red flags’ and ‘external signals’
  • Provide training for the EIG team to help understand and interpret markets data
  • Establish new processes to monitor and interpret analyst reports
  • Assist with in depth risk sensing analysis where we have significant concerns regarding an entity or for significant new potential audit opportunities
  • Engage with the audit partner group, through presentations and where appropriate individual discussions, to help them bring an ‘analyst’ mind-set to the audit risk assessment process and identification of fraud risks
  • Provide input into and potentially assist with delivery of fraud training for auditors

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experienced professional analyst with experience of working at a leading analyst firm or bank. Experience of researching/analysing a variety of industry sectors across both corporate and financial services. Awareness of audit, current challenges in the profession (e.g. Audit Product of the Future and the ‘Brydon’ review). Effective presentation, communication and team work skills both with partners and less experienced people in the EIG team. In-depth knowledge of specific sectors. Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or equivalent). Experience of working in some of the larger geographies applicable to Deloitte’s North South Europe coverage.
