An exciting new position has opened at HMT Sancta Maria Hospital in the finance department. We are recruiting for a Finance and Commercial Manager. The post holder will be responsible for the effective delivery of high caliber financial, business and commercial support to the Hospital Director and Head of Finance to ensure the hospitals efficient operation and improving margin wherever possible.
Main Responsibilities
An active member of the Hospital Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
To work with the Hospital Director (HD) and SLT to develop the hospital’s business strategy, in-line with HMT strategy
Provide financial and commercial support to the HD and SLT.
To ensure that the processes and structures of the hospital are appropriate for the robust data collection and production of accurate management information
To deliver insightful analysis to support decision making and improve performance.
Assess the effectiveness of processes and the ongoing profitability of clinical procedures
Assess the effectiveness of processes and the ongoing profitability of operating theatres.
To support and develop the financial, operational and commercial decision making of staff and teams in the hospital.
To support business development by maximizing resource allocation enabling the hospital to expand its reach into existing and new markets.
To deliver the decision support, financial and operational reporting to ensure that the hospital operates efficiently, effectively and in compliance with corporate standards.
To work with colleagues to promote a commercial culture of continuous improvement in order to deliver the highest quality processes and services to consultants and patients whilst delivering the hospitals strategy and plans.
The day to day management of all business processes that underpin NHS funded care, including but not limited to NHS reporting requirements, investigating financial challenges, preparation of activity & financial reconciliations.
Taking responsibility with the HD for the development and maintenance of relationships with all key CCG’s, Health Boards and stakeholders involved in activity management and financial reconciliation.
In conjunction with the Head of Finance to ensure that contracts with organizations purchasing services from the hospital are commercially agreed. The details of all contracts must be provided to the Financial Controller and Billing Team, to ensure income collection is in accordance with the contracts.
Actively seek to an improvement to margins generated across the hospital, without adversely impacting on the quality of patient care.
Production of weekly statistics on hospital activity, both actual and projected
Production of weekly indicative management accounts
To work with the Central Finance Team over the month end close, including assisting in updating the prepayments and accrual schedules.
To work with the Central Finance Team, in the production of monthly hospital management accounts and supporting pack. Taking responsibility for the accompanying commentary to the monthly report.
To work with the Central Finance Team, in the production of monthly departmental management accounts.
To hold with the Head of Finance monthly management account review meetings with individual HoDs.
To ensure that Focal Point is regularly reviewed and that no backlog of unapproved invoices builds up.
Preparation of financial cases for capital expenditure requests.
Actively seek to find margin improvement opportunities across hospital operational performance
Support the SLT and Heads of Department to manage and improve labor costs efficiency and resource management.
To work with the Head of Finance In the preparation of interim forecasts, annual budgets and strategic plans.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualified accountant with at least 6 years post qualification experience Hands-on’ approach and flexible ‘can do’ proactive attitude. Must be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of staff. Effective communication skills. Approachable, and calm under pressure. Able to priorities effectively and manage conflict and competing interest groups. Focused on getting the job done effectively and efficiently whilst keeping others on side. Ability to identify and solve problems and think creatively. A sound knowledge of accounting principles and best practice. Good verbal, written and numerical skills and a high level of computer literacy, including a -proficient use of Microsoft Office.
