This role is pivotal to ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation across the DVLA estate. You will support the development of Risk Assessments, will be responsible for conducting accident investigations and evaluating and auditing health and safety compliance of external contractors. You will work with colleagues across the business and with external stakeholders, providing competent and effective advice and confidently managing Health and Safety issues as they arise.
Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
Providing support to the H&S team and wider DVLA business in all aspects of Health and safety.
Conducting and reviewing risk assessments as required on behalf of the agency.
Monitoring performance of principle service provider in managing pre-planned maintenance tasks to ensure statutory compliance.
Providing advice on health and safety processes and procedures to managers and staff.
Attending regular meetings with key stakeholders on all H&S related matters.
Completing audits and evaluations of compliance for the health and safety Management System, DVLA procedures and Contractors to ISO45001 standard.
Assisting in maintaining the health and safety Management System to ISO45001 certification standard.
Carrying out firefighting equipment audits to ensure statutory compliance to the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.
Carrying out accident/near miss investigations to determine root causes and identify corrective actions, liaising closely with the principal service provider.
Monitoring performance of principle service provider in managing pre-planned maintenance tasks to ensure statutory compliance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
You will be a proactive and flexible individual who brings experience of auditing and monitoring compliance in a health and safety environment. You will be well organized with an eye for detail, and have the knowledge and confidence to give effective health and safety guidance, advice and support. You will be an excellent communicator who is able to tailor your skills to suit different audiences, including explaining complex information in easy to understand ways. You have excellent stakeholder management skills, and can quickly build rapport and nurture positive, trusting working relationships with a variety of colleagues at different levels. You are also conscientious and appreciate the need for impartiality and confidentiality when investigating accidents and dealing with sensitive information. You will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety as a minimum. It would be great if you have Lead Auditor ISO45001 qualifications and Duty to Manage Asbestos training, but if not, we will support you to obtain these while in post.
