Job Description

To manage production efficiently and consistently to meet order requirements. The production manager will be a hands-on and inspirational leader with overall responsibility for the management of the operations team and running of production with a focus on machine maintenance and efficient running of production activities. To make sure best practice food safety, hygiene & health & safety requirements are maintained.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the company directors, you will be responsible for the continuous improvement and general day-to-day operation of the factory floor. Your main responsibilities will include the following:

- Plan production to ensure all delivery targets are met.

- Proactively strive to continuously improve the manufacturing set up and process and to develop effective efficient production lines and teams.

- To manage, motivate and develop an effective production team. Promote succession planning and a ‘develop from within’ culture. To identify and implement staff training where required.

- To have detailed knowledge of the company’s quality management system, products range, recipes and customer base.

- To fully understand the plant, machinery and the production processes in all areas.

- Monitor and improve productivity and reduce down-time, with continuous improvement techniques to be implemented.

- Manage staff to ensure tasks are done correctly and in a timely manner and overseeing staff break times/attendance/timekeeping.

- To work alongside maintenance, implementing a preventative maintenance routine whilst identifying, reporting and solving plant or machinery breakdowns/issues.

- Cover for staff during breaks and during periods of sickness as required.

- Maintain a proactive relationship with the Technical & Quality team and ensure protocols for food safety, hygiene, quality and labelling compliance are maintained.

- Ensure audit & customer standards are implemented and maintained through an ‘audit ready every day’ culture

- Perform orientation / induction with new staff members, to familiarise them with the factory floor and requirements.

- Monitor the effluent plant, cooling towers and ensure PH levels are documented daily, report any issues to maintenance and the company directors.

- Work with the management team and customers on new product development, this may include site visits with customers and factory trials of new products.

- Responsible for explaining the production process and giving site tours to customers and auditors.

- To actively host and participate in management meetings and be part of the site HACCP team.
