Job Description
  • Ensure that strong and effective systems are in place to adequately support the delivery of objectives, which will include the following areas:
  • The preparation of both the Annual Report and Accounts. The Financial Accountant will liaise with auditors and government and ensure there is a good portfolio of supporting evidence;
  • Grant In Aid claims;
  • VAT quarterly returns, gift aid claims and annual tax returns;
  • Fixed Asset Register;
  • Strong cash and banking controls supporting effective Treasury Management;
  • GPC and reimbursement of business travel and expenses.
  • Management and leadership of finance team.
  • Ensure the delivery of a payroll function which results in:
  • Accurate and timely payments to staff;
  • Correct deductions and payments for third parties;
  • A range of periodic reports for employees and for management purposes.
  • Manage financial ledger systems to a high standard. This will include the following;
  • Accurately recording all transactions;
  • Capturing pertinent data (including coding, transaction date, supplier/debtor);
  • Identifying VAT accurately and undertaking the quarterly VAT return;
  • Effective management of the Purchase Ledger;
  • Effective period end administration;
  • Supplier payments will be made for authorised transactions across a range of payment types and currencies within supplier terms;
  • Recording customer payments will be recorded and allocated to the correct debtor account;
  • Other income will be recorded and posted as appropriate;
  • Regular evidenced reconciliation of key control accounts;
  • Regular collections management to minimise outstanding debt;
  • Regular invoice and order management to minimise supplier payment days.
  • Manage electronic ledger and payroll systems to ensure that processing is effectively delivered and that the reporting information is reliable. This will include:
  • Ensuring systems and key controls (e.g. Segregation of Duties) are in place and working well;
  • Effective liaison with the Management Accountant in relation to requisition systems.
  • Responsibility for the financial management of specific balance sheet codes; including but not limited to;
    • Retirement Provision;
    • Pay & Grading Provision;
    • Season Ticket Advances.

  • CCAB qualified
  • 3 years post qualification relevant financial accounting experience;
  • 3 years of experience supervising staff;
  • Experience of preparation of year-end accounts;
  • Experience of 'whole company' accounting;

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Detailed knowledge of VAT and payroll deductions. Excellent analytical skills, logic and problem solving skills. Ability to demonstrate proven commitment to maintaining key controls such as regular reconciliation and reporting. Good knowledge of computerised accounting systems, including data reporting. Good organisational ability and time management skills. Good level of data management and ICT skills. Ability to prepare and present financial reports. Can demonstrate financial expertise, understand and deliver suitable finance practices which will lead to organisational success, can build personal credibility and applies professional standards.
