Job Description

The Commercial Services Manager position is an exciting and dynamic opportunity that will require an enthusiastic and driven individual to control, develop and report on the successful commercial delivery of our Asset investment programme.

Reporting to the Partnership Services Manager, this is an exciting new role within one of the North East’s biggest housing providers, where you will build relationships with internal delivery teams and construction partners from the sector.

Our £130m 5-year investment plan is now set to be delivered. You will be instrumental in helping commercially steer the investment team with their £30-£40m per annum programme.

You will have the opportunity to develop commercial structures within the department, mentor the commercial team and introduce an open and transparent culture to cost control. This role will underpin the operational delivery, strengthen commercial awareness of the programme, maximise delivery efficiencies and help ultimately to enhance our customer experience.

You will be a leader within our Asset team. You will be allowed to express your creativity regarding this position and be inspirational in how the department operates commercially.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
We’re looking for someone who is highly motivated and up for the challenge to lead a professional, commercial team associated with our Asset Investment programme. You should have substantial experience within the built environment and preferably within the social housing sector. Experiences in both JCT and NEC suite of contracts would be desirable. This technical and contractual awareness will provide advisory support of our delivery teams involved in our partnership contracts. Taking ownership and responsibility for your key objectives is important as well as being a team player in a dynamic and friendly group. You will need to demonstrate excellent communication, leadership and management skills to inspire, develop and educate your team to create a high-performance culture. Working in line with our business aims and cultural business ethos you will be accountable for financial forecasts, contract partner & internal delivery expenditure over a diverse set of projects. You will need to demonstrate commercial flair, strategic thinking and have a drive for efficient and safe working practices. You will be responsible in leading the team in negotiations and where required resolve complex disputed issues to final account. Orderly and methodical in your approach to problem solving, you will be a source of professional advice for managers, building relationships with contracting partners, managing payment, producing in-house spend profiles and monitoring spend against budget. You will lead on contract procurement, management and performance across Asset Investment and support group procurement through various frameworks that support the business requirements.
