We will offer short to medium term treatment and rehabilitation to people with a learning disability who cannot be accommodated in multi occupied units/wards because of their specific needs. Typically the patients will be detained under the Mental Health Act, have mental health problems, a history of substance misuse, challenging behaviour and may have a past history of committing criminal offences. The service will support the patient returning to their local community.
The post holder must have some knowledge and experience in working in Mental Health/ Learning disability, a Care Certificate qualification or willing to work towards this qualification. The post holder will be expected to participate in, and facilitate the various group activities that occur on the ward as part of the inpatient treatment programme. The post holder will assist in the provision of support and care under the guidance of a qualified nurse, for patients with physical, mental health and social care needs, on the unit or in the community.
Whilst full induction and training will be given due to specialist nature of the service it is crucial that staff have a particular interest in this group. The post holder will be required to provide emergency to other units in event of temporary staff deficits
