Job Description

This role is required to provide on-site support in a 12hr shift pattern, including over weekends and bank holidays. Shift pattern is 2 days, 2 nights and 4 days off in a repeating Rota

As a Linux Systems Administrator, you will:

  • Work with key stakeholders (including external application suppliers) to help deliver and maintain a first-class environment platform
  • Provide both operational and integration support for the NHS Production environments which support NHS GP, Hospital PAS and Pharmacy systems
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly at all levels from end-user to senior management (up to Director level) regarding incidents occurring in the Live environments.
  • Provide advice and guidance to other shift team members on scenarios where precedent may not necessarily exist.
  • Monitor the performance of the systems, services and hardware to ensure there is no potential for, or degradation to, Live service and acting upon the findings as appropriate.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of Ubuntu and Centos operating systems. Basic knowledge of Splunk, in particular the use of queries. Basic knowledge of python scripting. Understanding of Apache/NGINX configuration. Experience of troubleshooting problems using Wire shark packet captures. Experience of using, and troubleshooting, server / client certificates. Experience of successfully manage major incidents and provide 2nd line support. Having in depth knowledge of any /all of Microsoft, Linux & VMware server technologies Proven experience of technical issue resolution of incidents and problems in a Live / Production environment. Ability to contribute to the planning and implementation of maintenance and installation work. Valid and active SC Clearance or willingness to undergo. Previous NHS or Public Sector experience would be beneficial but not essential.
