Job Description

The post-holder will closely support the finance delivery of the Retail Profitability project. The purpose of the project is to enable greater commercial understanding of the full retail portfolio for all business areas while also enhancing financial control through the utilization of big data.

Support the Commercial Accountant in liaising with the IT project team and business SMEs for the scoping of finance requirements and testing for the Retail Profitability project.

Act as the key business tester of the outputs provided by IT and the Management Information team.

Ensure that any discrepancies on test data are fed back to the Commercial Accountant and relevant members of the IT project team in a timely manner with supporting analysis and clear explanations.

Engage with the finance team as directed by the Commercial Accountant to ensure that requirements set are fit for purpose. This must cover audit derivatives and internal reporting, ensuring adherence to accounting standards.

Work with other business teams to ensure that there is one version of the truth in the new system and that the business agrees with the requirements set by finance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to interpret large volumes of data into meaningful analysis. Ability to demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving. Self-motivated, detail orientated and deadline focused. Strong numeracy and Excel skills including the ability to use formulas and Vlookups. Accounting or Finance degree or equivalent. Previous experience (ideally, a minimum of 6 months) of accounting within a Finance department. Strong verbal reasoning skills and the ability to work under an agile project methodology. Good knowledge of the electricity/gas industries.
