Job Description

Key accountabilities
 

  • The preparation and distribution of periodic Management Accounts packs including detailed Board packs, group reporting packs, profit and loss accounts, periodic Performance Summaries and KPIs to strict periodic timetables.
  • Continually monitor, challenge, review and amend as necessary all accounting entries and methodologies to ensure that the periodic accounting process is continually improved and meets the needs of the business.
  • Preparation of periodic accruals, prepayments and provisions in relation to overheads for the management accounts to strict timetables.
  • Preparation of periodic postings for payroll and associated costs, together with the resolution of payroll related accounting reconciling items.
  • Ensure the accurate maintenance of an up-to-date property database to ensure meaningful allocation of property overheads.
  • Ensure cost allocation basis for delivery support costs are constantly reviewed and accurately applied each period.
  • Periodic reconciliation of designated balance sheet accounts with documentary evidence and calculations to support all balances.
  • Preparation of periodic and longer term forecasts and annual budgets, developing relationships with specific cost centre managers to facilitate an effective service to Operations.
  • Support the production of the cost base forecast, including direct and allocated costs, ensuring that all costs are captured and are based on robust assumptions and business intelligence.
  • Assist with the assessment and implementation of new contracts from a finance perspective, producing robust budgets and plans and ensuring that the appropriate accounting treatments are implemented.
  • Support periodic P&L reviews with operations, utilising the suite of financial and KPI reports available. Provide timely and detailed cost centre management information with explanations for cost variances. Help drive financial focus and improved operational efficiency.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualified accountant (preferably CIMA) or Part-Qualified accountant with significant management accounting experience in a private sector public services contracting environment. Previous experience in a Management Accounting role in a fast moving, high volume, multi site environment, such experience to include preparation of monthly management accounts at a detailed level of accruals and prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, KPI preparation and interpretation, budgeting and forecasting. Previous exposure to development of financial or budgeting models in a commercial environment Demonstrable experience of working in a fast paced, changing finance environment and driving through change Proven ability to convey financial information to non financial managers in a coherent, confident manner. Relevant experience might come from monthly management accounts review meetings, budget or forecast negotiations or commercial negotiations Proven analytical and reporting skills. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Good accounting systems knowledge, gained through in-depth exposure to systems such as Oracle, SAP, CODA Proactive, self motivated attitude. Excellent organisational and time management skills and attention to detail A team player with good interpersonal, relationship building, networking and communication skills. Ability to influence and support colleagues towards achieving business objectives. Ability to deal with and manage through conflicting priorities and a number of tasks running concurrently The ability to grasp complex processes quickly
