Job Description

The role will suit a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) coming from a SME background with excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail. The successful candidate must be deadline focused with an aptitude for process improvement and simplification.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Accounting:
    • Perform management accounting / financial accounting processes
    • Prepare journal entities
    • Prepare analysis and provide insight into areas of focus
    • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, highlighting and resolving any issues
    • VAT and CIS compliance
    • Working within internal reporting deadlines
    • Making recommendation to improve and simplify processes
    • Liaise with Senior Stakeholders and influence decision making in the business
  • Payments:
    • Supplier invoice processing
    • Supplier invoice payment
    • Supplier query management
    • Employee expenses
    • Bank reconciliations
  • Control:
    • Implements an effective internal control framework
    • Ensuring compliance with SOx and other regulatory requirements
    • Liaising with auditors and providing evidence and supporting narrative as required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc.). Knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS. Qualified Accounting with Management Accounting and/or Audit experience. Experience of working within SME environment. Strong excel and financial systems skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to coach and develop others. Experience of working in a complex environment, delivering to deadlines. Researches into emerging / complex accounting or reporting issues. Assurance mindset – the ability to review accurately, but also to identify risks in processes and reconciliations and articulate/resolve/mitigate these as part of the monthly accounting cycle. Communicator - to provide clear and meaningful interpretation of analysis conducted. To be able to lead and control meetings with senior stakeholders. Stakeholdering – to be able to understand finance and operational stakeholder’s needs and requirements in order to provide excellent customer service. To understand the correct balance between challenge and support of these stakeholders in order to raise both the profile and external perception of the team. Collaboration – working across internal and external teams in multiple locations to provide the appropriate support to the Phoenix Management Team. Self- motivated - Well-organized, adaptable and resilient. Responds to challenging priorities with a sense of urgency and pace. Ability to work under pressure.
