BANK OF ENGLAND - TECHNOLOGY DEVISION
The Technology division manages and supports all aspect of technology delivery across the Bank, from maintaining critical systems which underpin the UK economy, to providing big data analytics, implementing comprehensive cyber security programmes and introducing innovative solutions in support of a digital workplace.


Technology's key objective is to support all other areas of the Bank in achieving our collective mission to promote the good of the people of the UK by maintaining monetary and financial stability. This is achieved through the delivery of appropriate, high performing, resilient solutions and information services across the organisation and externally.


Technology is structured around a simple operating model: Analyse-Deliver-Service-Secure. This model ensures transparency and effectiveness in our delivery, prioritisation and cost base for IT services and promotes close working relationships with colleagues across the Bank so that we can all deliver with pace and agility.


THE ROLE OF A VMWARE ADMINISTRATOR
Working within the Windows function, this is a key role in developing, maintaining and continuously improving internal IT systems. Working on an Assignment of BAU and tickets Incidents and Work Orders, BAU Improvements and projects work on a rotation basis, this includes any support of the daily meetings and service management support, any service impacting incidents and driving the outcome in investigation. This will include any proactive maintenance for vulnerabilities, being comfortable working out of hours and providing on call support on a Rota basis.


Main Role function administering Windows 2008, 2012, 2016 and investigate any OS related alerts or configuration changes through automated alerts and monitoring systems.
Key responsibilities include, and are not limited to:
* Investigate SCOM alerts for servers
* Investigation on dashboards to learn about thresholds alerts on servers
* Capacity Management across the estate
* VDI Support, Analyses the performance of both server and VM's using tools available
* Windows server administration & support skills
* Active Directory, Group Policy
* Certificates installation
* Problem Solve complex issues & IT problems
* Windows and VMWare administration
* Solid experience of installing, configuring and administering Windows Platforms using best practices
* Proven track record of working and configuration of servers using CIS standards
* Proven track record in administration within a highly professional environment
* Process Documentation
* Demonstrate a structured approach to work, conducting with professionalism at all levels
* On Call Function for the Windows Team on a rotation


MINIMUM ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences and talk through technical details to non-technical people
* Familiar with ITSM practices ITIL, Change Management, Problem, Incident Management
* Ability to understand and analyses dashboards, being analytical with investigation of Problems
* Be able to communicate with vendors for support calls and cases raised with vendors
* Comfortable working under pressurized environments, sometimes with quick results expected

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Valid certification in Windows 2012, 2016 MCSA or equivalent qualifications MTA, other Microsoft exams, or at least 3 years /hands on experience
* Experience of server management technologies such as UCS Manager and VMWARE
* Practical experience/knowledge of VMware including VSphere 6.5, 6.7 or higher
* Implement regular checks for the status of servers including hardware and software
* Management of server migration when required by the client
* Understanding of protocols for networks LAN/WAN/VLAN, TCP/IP, UDP
* SCCM Scripting languages for use in creating packages
* Qualys experience of vulnerabilities management, use of dashboards to interrupt the risk to windows estate
* HX CISCO knowledge
* SCOM Monitoring and alerting tools Squared up, vRops
* Knowledge of ITIL and other industry wide initiatives that promote quality and process improvement (ITIL v3 Foundation certified preferred)
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Detailed understanding of processes and systems within Infrastructure
* Good working knowledge of the mission of the Bank of England and the part Technology plays

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
* Able to work hands on as Windows System Administrator
* PowerShell scripting languages
* Knowledge of Azure cloud technologies preferably migrations to the cloud
* Automation toolsets would be useful
* Windows 2019
* Linux on Windows
