Job Description

We are currently working with a well respected Law Firm to recruit a No 2 to the Accounts team to support the existing Accounts Manager. This is an additional recruit to the team. Law firm experience is essential, given the detailed regulatory requirements of the SRA Solicitors Accounts Rules & Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, and we are after someone with all-round experience and flexibility in taking on tasks.

Currently the team consists of a Manager and three assistants, each of the assistants have their own specific tasks.

The firm has four offices and this role will be based in the Bromley office. Roughly a quarter of the firm’s revenue is in Private Client, a quarter in Residential Conveyancing and other larger practices include Litigation, Family, Commercial Property, Employment and Leasehold.

The Role:

  • Prime book keeping for the practice is kept up to date and accurate: for example, invoices are correctly posted to the right overhead codes, the correct VAT treatment is used, correct allocation to capital expenditure
  • Clear monthly schedules are produced for accruals and prepayments
  • All the main balance sheet control accounts are reconciled to the trial balance (eg VAT, PAYE, Pension controls and bank loans)
  • The fixed asset register is maintained and updated, and depreciation charges posted on a monthly basis
  • All the bank accounts are reconciled monthly.

The candidate would oversee day to day accounts department activities, support and guide the team, pick up a wide range of overflow tasks as appropriate, and resolve more complex and time-consuming matters. This could include, for example: helping credit control when matters are stuck awaiting instructions with partners or where matters move from credit control to become an internal client of our Debt Co; or supporting the Accounts Manager with the input of budgets, production of the Monthly Management Pack, preparation for audit.

The successful applicant:

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

Hours
