Work with the Head of Financial Accounting on the production of the draft year-end statements, and associated supporting evidence and reconciliations, under the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP 2019) to plan.
Preparation of the quarterly VAT return and annual adjustment
Reconciliation of the VAT accounts ensuring that the VAT returns are reflective of the relevant transactions in the accounting system
Carry out the month end closure process to strict deadlines, working closely with the FP&A team.
Manage and develop the University’s fixed assets register, including the identification and posting of monthly additions and running/posting depreciation, to ensure accurate month end and year accounts.
Previous Education or Social Housing Sector Financial Accounting experience would be an advantage but is not essential.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A strong financial accounting background. Either a finalist or qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent). Capable of demonstrating up-to-date technical financial reporting knowledge. Strong finance system skills, including advanced excel. Experience of producing or supporting the production of year-end financial statements. Experience of fixed asset accounting, particularly in relation to large capital projects.
