Job Description

The successful candidate will be technical authority on Staff Scheduling and be accountable for the delivery of staff duty schedules and rosters across LU operational roles.

You will collaborate across multiple business areas and using your service planning knowledge alongside your staff schedule and roster design knowledge influence and agree scheduling strategies and the establishment of staffing numbers. 

Responsible for leading a large team and a large volume of projects you will be using your leadership skills to manage and motivate to meet tight deadlines and get the absolute best out of your team.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with engaging and communicating with senior stakeholders and your detail oriented and strong analytical and problem-solving skills will ensure the schedules production process is compliant with specifications, scheduling principles and consistent best practice.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership of the 20+ Schedules team 
  • Be the technical authority and Professional Head for London Underground on Staff Scheduling
  • Work in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to lead the delivery of staff duty schedules and rosters
  • Accountable for the correct and accurate forecasting of staff establishment numbers
  • Plan and organise the multitude of projects to ensure all planned products are delivered on time, are free from defects, comply with specifications, processing, publication and dispatch needs, corporate standards, scheduling principles, trade union agreements and consistent best practice
  • Maintain processes, skills, knowledge, experience and team capability and review the performance of products after their delivery, including contributing to post-implementation reviews of new schedules and rosters
  • Ensure scheduling systems remain fit for purpose'  and opportunities to enhance technology are capitalised  
  • Working with senior stakeholders participate in consultation with trade unions and act as subject matter expert on scheduling matters

Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills
  • Ability to deal with a high-volume workload to meet tight deadlines
  • Detail oriented, committed to continuous improvement, taking ownership of outputs to ensure accuracy
  • Proven ability to communicate with people at all levels, including both external and internal stakeholders
  • Strong business and financial acumen (desirable)

Knowledge

  • Principles and processes of staff scheduling and timetable design
  • Understanding of the role of trade union agreements in staff schedule and roster design
  • Utilisation of computerised staff scheduling software
  • Strong business focus with commitment to driving performance, reliability and financial efficiency (desirable)
  • Awareness of fatigue management practices (desirable)
