Job Description

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with engaging and communicating with senior stakeholders and your detail oriented and strong analytical and problem-solving skills will ensure the timetable production process is compliant with specifications, scheduling principles and consistent best practice.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership of the Timetables team, a team of 20+ 
  • Be the technical authority for London Underground on Timetabling supporting senior managers in the planning process
  • Influence the decision-making process to achieve optimum specifications for train services consistent with robust and sustainable scheduling
  • Plan and direct the development process for service scheduling solutions, including the surveying and research of service options, analysis of design data and products, the preparation of timetables, schedules and associated material for publication, and the preparation and communication of revised service plans for closures and events.
  • Plan and organise the multitude of projects to ensure all planned products are delivered on time, are free from defects, comply with specifications, processing, publication and dispatch needs, corporate standards, scheduling principles and consistent best practice
  • Maintain awareness of current progress and planned work, and implement effective allocation to ensure team are able to respond to ad-hoc or short-notice business requirements, major asset failures or incidents
  • Identify conflicts and dependencies between proposals and plans, evaluate the impact and provide options and solutions
  • Maintain processes, skills, knowledge, experience and team capability and review the performance of products after their delivery, including contributing to post-implementation reviews of new timetables

  • Proven Metro-style Timetable Compilation and Service Design Skills
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to clearly articulate complex topics
  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills
  • Ability to deal with a high-volume workload to meet tight deadlines
  • Detail oriented, committed to continuous improvement, taking ownership of outputs to ensure accuracy
  • Proven ability to communicate with people at all levels, including both external and internal stakeholders

Knowledge

  • Timetabling principles and best practice
  • Service planning processes and corporate governance related to introduction of timetables
  • Train Planning Rules and Operating rules and procedures
  • Access times and Engineering Hours and the application of traction current switching Engineering, Network Rail Track/Station access processes, possession procedures and agreements (desirable)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience of, or exposure to, the detailed requirements and process for high frequency Metro timetable compilation Managing and leading a large team of subject matter experts Senior stakeholder management when dealing with complex internal relationships Planning, Programme or Project Management and Risk Management (desirable) Providing specialist advice through different communication channels to senior internal and external stakeholders Writing, editing and publishing operational communication material (desirable) Detailed requirements and process for timetable or staff duty schedule compilation and publication (desirable)
