Job Description

The role delivers technical expertise to aid the implementation, maintenance, and support of core technology along with providing technical guidance to junior members of the team. The services provided by the technology this role supports run 24/7 365 days per year.

Knowledge:
Sound on the job experience of the platform specialism or equivalent extensive on-the job experience with RDBMS Platforms (on-prem, cloud, hybrid) in an Enterprise Environment hosting business critical application on a 24x7x365 basis.
In depth knowledge of the latest and emerging technologies likely to be employed in designing and delivering Enterprise Wide quality solutions in the chosen RDBMS platform (IaaS, PaaS)
Knowledge of implementing, upgrading, migrating, maintaining and decommissioning RDBMS implementations in enterprise environments
Knowledge of ITIL and its practical implementation in large organisations.
The relevant national and international legislation pertaining to the Government/Public Sector IT – e.g. GDPR, EU Procurement Directives and Freedom of Information Act.
Knowledge of Project Methodologies like Prince2, APMP, AgileSkills:
Experienced in planning own activities and input to larger team activities. Delivering to agreed plans.
Highly skilled at analysing data to determine trends and patterns to proactively mitigate service affecting issues.
Communicates clearly adapting the style of communication to technical and non-technical people at all levels.
Proven ability to work with suppliers, internal teams and customers as necessary to reliably deliver component technologies that combine to form business services. 
Proficient in risk identification and mitigation planning to reduce service impacting issues.
Highly skilled at solving complex challenges, being able to communicate coherently throughout the process.

• SQL Server 2019, 2017 
• Knowledge deployments on Hyperconverged Infrastructure.
• Experience of WINTEL and UNIX/Linux VMware platforms 
• Recent experience of database migrations from legacy version of SQL Server version to supported ones.
• Monitoring tools: IONIX, SCOM. Azure Monitor
• Backups tools: Avamar.
• Experience of key applications related to SQL Server: Remedy, SCOM, SharePoint, and Citrix. Web services.
• SSAS - SQL Server Analysis Services SSIS, SSRS - Ideally experience of PowerBI
• Scripting and Automation.
• Relevant SQL Server certifications aligned to supporting TfL essential SQL Server technologies listed above.
• Experience/ Working knowledge of any open source object-relational databases system such as Postgres and document-oriented database such as MongoDB.
• Project work: installation and configuration, database upgrades/migrations/copies.
• Champion the use 


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• SQL Server 2016, 2012, 2008 (R2), 2008, 2005, 2000, Azure; AWS, AWS RDS, S3, T-SQL , PowerShell • You will have production DBA experience: monitoring, backup and recovery, high availability, troubleshooting, capacity planning, security, upgrades (SQL versions/patches/hotfixes). • Project work: installation and configuration, database upgrades/migrations/copies. • TSQL scripting, PowerShell, SSIS – SQL Server Integration Services, SSRS – SQL Server Reporting Services, Performance Tuning: Performance monitor, SQL Server Profiler, DMVs, Resource Governor.  • Availability Groups, Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, Encryption • Extensive experience of supporting SQL Server Databases in a complex, multi-site, preferably in both private and the public sector. • Knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019 platforms • Extensive experience of supporting SQL Server Databases in a complex, multi-site enterprise environment. • Possess contemporary industry knowledge and the influencing skills to engage, influence and challenge stakeholders. • Experienced in databases disaster recovery practices. • Support the Senior Engineer and the Infrastructure Manager in delivering the team outcomes. • Awareness of licensing models. •ITIL: experience working with incidents, service requests, changes, problems. • Experience and available for 24/7 on-call rota and Out of Hours planned work. The individual must also be suitable to apply and obtain Security Clearance to manage data from the Police (CSEP Data).
