Job Description
Duties:
Leading the accounting function including the day-to-day management of the accounts team (2 accounts assistants, 1 being a rolling student placement position)
Forecasting (P&L and cashflow)
Annual budget preparation with department heads
Production of monthly management accounts (including variance analysis)
Taking ownership of the management accounts pack with regular reviews and updates to meet the needs of the business and utilising automation available within company systems.
Purchase ledger management - authorisation of payment runs.
Sales ledger management (including credit control) - supervision of junior staff and managing issues around non-payment.
Review of Year-end and monthly accounts (including accruals, prepayments, deferred income, bad debts provision, release of grant income, and bank reconciliations)
Annual Audit preparation - point of contact with the audit team.
VAT returns for two limited companies on a quarterly basis.
Loan covenant reporting to the bank
Issuing index-linked rent reviews and negotiating market-rate rent reviews.
Maintenance of fixed asset register
Aiding in the administration, review and improvement of financial systems, controls, and processes
Renewal of major contracts (insurance, mobile phone and utilities)
The calculation, submission and payment of PSA & Class 1a NICs
Collation of monthly payroll information for submission to the outsourced payroll provider. Then review and approval of monthly payroll.
An interest in and experience in systems implementation would be advantageous. The company is working to move all finance-related systems to cloud-based systems. This will be a major part of the role in the next 6-12 months and an ongoing theme.
Holding regular meetings with the Finance Director to discuss and resolve key issues along with updates on system-related projects.
Superuser and main contact for most company systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Self-motivated individual Proven experience in a wide-ranging accounting role with staff supervision experience. Candidates must be IT literate and have a pro-active attitude to problem solving. Advanced excel skills including use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP formulas. Excellent organisational skills including attention to detail and multitasking. A continuous improvement philosophy to ensure systems and processes remain up to date and efficiencies are considered where possible. Familiarity with compiling and maintaining company procedures and processes. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Must be able to work as a key member of a multi-disciplined team and be able to work closely with other departments within the organisation. Commercial awareness. Accounting qualification or studying towards qualification Familiar with cloud-based systems such as Compleat (Purchase Order processing), AccountsIQ (Accounting), Operate (Serviced Office billing software).
