Job Description

This is an opportunity to join a modern and progressive local firm of accountants as a Trainee Accountant, where you’ll gain an excellent foundation of practical accounts experience while you study toward your AAT qualification.  You will be learning bookkeeping to trial balance, preparing VAT returns and reconciling balance sheet accounts.  You’ll also be supporting with the preparation of client payrolls, personal tax returns and assisting on audits.  And once you’ve completed your AAT qualification, there’s the potential then to study further and train to become a fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA). 

You will be working in a friendly and supportive team environment.  Hours of work are 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week).  Free parking is available, and the office is also conveniently located for public transport connections (good local bus and train connections).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will have a good academic background with GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at grade B or above.  Three A Levels, ideally to include Mathematics, at Grade B or above is preferred.  You’ll also be hard-working and able to demonstrate plenty of initiative and drive, and have a 'can do' attitude, not afraid to take on new tasks.  Attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines are also essential.
