Job Description

Joining a dynamic and unique industry, this is a real opportunity to proactively support the recovery and future of MAG, as the sector emerges from the pandemic.

Joining a small team on site at East Midlands Airport, you’ll report into the Head of Finance and have direct responsibility for partnering with key senior stakeholders within the airport – in particular the Head of Terminal Operations, Head of Airfield Operations and Head of Air Traffic Control, amongst others.

To help drive strong business recovery, your shorter term focus will be on cost control and cost mitigation, using your expert partnering skills to challenge expenditure, identify cost saving opportunities and provide high quality MI, analysis and insight to drive effective cost control. As recovery progresses, your responsibilities will expand into supporting our range of commercial income streams and driving greater returns.

You’ll also provide centralized support to the wider MAG Finance Team during key reporting periods including month end, forecasting and business planning; along with supporting the East Midlands Head of Finance with ad hoc commercial and operational requests.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing the business and stakeholders with accurate, timely, robust and insightful management information. This includes providing insight and advice on improving business performance against key KPIs.
  • Facilitating preparation and production of annual reports for budgets, regular reforecasts and weekly estimates in line with a robust framework of financial control
  • Preparing reports for the Finance team in the business units using analysis provided by the Finance Service Centre
  • Providing appropriate levels of challenge to the business with the aim of maximizing business profit and controlling costs.
  • Working as a member of the MAG Business Partnering teams to help develop the medium and long term business plans, including appropriate performance targets and metrics to enable the achievement of targets
  • Providing financial support to stakeholders with understanding the financial implications of all business decisions through the production of ad hoc and non-standard analysis, modelling and ongoing tracking of business performance
  • Understanding and challenging current business practice, along with identifying and implementing initiatives to improve process and deliver business growth objectives.
  • Supporting the evaluation of business opportunities within your area and being pro-active in identifying and recommending potential opportunities and/or cost savings
    Provide centralized support to the wider Finance Teams during key reporting periods including month end, forecasting and business planning; and support to the Head of Finance with ad hoc requests that are focused on East Midlands, both commercial and operational

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification) with PQE experience gained in a fast moving, similar size organization, where you have successfully managed and prioritized the demands of multiple stakeholders. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for building successful relationships with senior stakeholders, able to constructively challenge where required. Comfortable working at pace, with energy and drive, able to operate in an agile way, flexible and adaptable to business priorities. Self-motivated and driven. Able to manage workload and time effectively, responsive to changing business needs, able to work well under pressure. Proven track record in analytical skills; excellent attention to detail and commercial acumen. Considerable experience in reporting, financial analysis, management accounting and system dashboard skills. Experience of thinking around problems, identifying and then implementing solutions. Strong IT system orientation including, Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills and experience of financial modelling. Knowledge of SAP will be beneficial though not essential. Ability to consolidate and present financial information in different formats and to be able to translate large amounts of data into useful information and actionable conclusions using business knowledge.
