Job Description
  • The Head of RF Engineering will take on leadership of the RF & Microwave Development Team, proactively working on commercial projects and R&D work.
  • As the successful candidate, you will manage the RF and RF over Optics development tasks across the whole range of the company's leading products.
  • You will work collaboratively with other key internal stakeholders in order to advance the product range to it's optimum quality, whilst also supporting the ongoing design and development of new product ranges.
  • Whilst the role will be very hands-on, and areas such as management of technical documentation will be key, you will also inspire other team members and departments to continually innovate.
  • This innovation will cover areas such as RF and Microwave products over the spectrum of IF, L-Band, CBand, X-Band, Ku-, K- and Ka-Bands, with future developments into Q and V bands.
  • You will perform RF system analysis and simulation of RF line up, covering areas such as cascade analysis, gain and frequency planning.
  • The seniority of the role will mean you will take responsibility for the delivery of successful RF designs to time and budget, and be accurate in costings of projects.
  • You will liaise closely with Engineers from other areas of the business, such as Mechanical, PCB, Electronics and Testing, to ensure products are fit-for-purpose.
  • As well as the technical disciplines, you will also collaborate with colleagues from areas such as Production, Operations, Sales and Marketing to ensure the timely delivery of customer deliverables.
  • As a senior people manager, you will lead, motivate and help develop the RF team, in both technical knowledge and soft skills.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
As the successful candidate for the Head of RF Engineering position, you will have: 10-15 years industry experience, and ideally be degree-educated in a field of Computer Science, Physics and/or Engineering. Excellent understanding of interaction and relationships between key parameters including gain, power levels, linearity, VSWR, NF, and signal related spurii. Extensive experience in RF and microwave design of active and passive circuits, especially over DC-6GHz, such as IF, L-, S-, C-Bands, and ideally to 40GHz. Very strong skill in the use of commercially available CAD tools (ideally NI/AWR Microwave Office) for circuit and system design and simulation. A proven background in working with RF circuit theory, transmission lines, PCB layout techniques and substrate materials. Outstanding people management ability, and the skills to motivate and inspire a division of reports, to build and innovate truly market-changing products.
